Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Inc. Announces
WRITE A PLAY! NYC Contest Awards Ceremony

It's about kids. It's about writing. It's about self expression.

Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek marks the opening of Lanford Wilson's Rain Dance by honoring NYC's most creative students -- by presenting prizes and certificates of achievement to award-winning playwrights. Julia Jarcho, winner of the WRITE A PLAY! NYC Contest in 1999 and the National Playwriting Competition in 2000, will act as the host of this year’s event. The Ceremony will celebrate the achievement of the over 400 students who submitted their original plays to this year’s WRITE A PLAY! NYC Contest. The twenty-nine winning playwrights of this year’s contest represent all five boroughs of New York City.

Young Playwrights Inc. (YPI), the 22-year-old invention of Stephen Sondheim, is pleased to announce the WRITE A PLAY! NYC Awards Ceremony on June 10th from 4pm to 6pm at the Donnell Library at 20 West 53rd Street.

Each contestant, their educators, and parents are invited to the Ceremony, which will salute the winners in each of three divisions: Elementary School (Grades K-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). Excerpts of the prize-winning plays will be featured, giving these young writers a rare opportunity to see their work performed by professional actors. All contest entrants will receive written evaluations of their plays and Certificates of Merit signed by YPI Founder Stephen Sondheim. All attendees will receive special gift bags stuffed with giveaways and multiple chances to win tickets to various New York City theatrical productions.

Admission to the Ceremony is free, but seats are limited and reservations are required. RSVP to Young Playwrights Inc. at (212) 594-5440.
