General Administrative Interns
Openings: Fall, Spring and Summer

YPI Interns work in all areas to ensure the smooth operation of YPI’s office. Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting with script management and evaluation for the National Playwriting Competition and Write A Play! NYC Contest, assisting with promotion of in-school workshops, data entry and information management, library and internet-based research, correspondence, production-related duties as needed, and general office management. Graduate internships are also available and can be coordinated to support the intern's area of study.

Script Readers
Young Playwrights Inc. is looking for theater professionals to read and evaluate plays submitted to the 2009 Young Playwrights Festival National Playwriting Competition; readers are expected to respond to each play with a one-page dramaturgical critique that will be sent to the writer. Readers are paid $7 per play/evaluation; the expected turn-around time for 12 plays is two weeks. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and critical writing sample to Young Playwrights Inc., Attn: Literary, Post Office Box 5134, New York NY 10185. Potential readers may be asked to evaluate a sample play provided by the Literary Manager as part of the application process.


Playwriting Workshop Leaders
Successful applicants will train to teach YPI’s acclaimed WRITE A PLAY! curriculum in grades 3-12 and work on a part-time basis in NYC schools. 

Applicants must be professional playwrights with teaching experience. Experience working with special needs students and/or bilingual candidates a plus.

Interested persons should mail or email: 

§          A cover letter and statement as to why you would like to work for YPI and your goals as a workshop leader;

§          A resume with artistic accomplishments, teaching/educational partnership experience, additional work/leadership experience, and educational background;

§          Two references familiar with your work as a playwright/teaching artist (include person’s name, title, organization, and contact information);

§          Supplemental materials are optional and should be limited to 5 pages.
